Serious Scrabble

So if you know my husband and I, you know that we are serious game players. We are also very competitive. Well Scrabble is one of my most favorite games and until recently I have completely dominated over Chris and practially everyone that I play (this is only because I play it A LOT). Well Chris used to always struggle and play the game just to humor me eventhough I would sorely beat him all the time. Well.....thanks to a little game called text twist that Chris plays on his Palm Treo the wheels have turned. Plus I had been a little unlucky with tiles and out of practice. Well the last 5 times we have played Chris has beat me!! I thought it was a lucky shot the first time but 5 in a row?? SO as you can imagine my blood was starting to boil a little (in a friendly competitive game playing way). Well this is the game that I finally beat him badly again. FINALLY!!! I was starting to seriously doubt my skills and thought I was losing my mind a little. I guess I still have it. Until we play again right? Maybe another game so I can give him a hard time for a while before he beats me again. I am impressed at his new talent. We love our games!

The Best Birthday Ever!!

I had the best birthday this year thanks to my wonderful husband Chris. I was feeling a little old this year. Especially after my younger brother called and told me that I was officially in my mid twenties and that now I'm closer to 30 and might as well round up. It was also nice of him to remind me that I'm now half way to 50. Now that's a great thought! But age is just a state of mind right? So here is how the day went. It's a little bitter sweet. I will explain.....

I need to preface this story first of all with Chris giving me a hard time about what we would be doing for my birthday. He seriously had my believing that we were going sky diving or off in a hot air balloon because he said it involved heights. The thing is that I have always wanted to go skydiving. But it is kindof one of those things that I say I will always want to do but would never REALLY do it. So I was a little freaked out.

So the day started off with Chris making me breakfast in bed with a sweet card. Then I was off to work. I dropped off the girls at their summer camps and went off to get a pedicure. Then I went out to lunch and went back to get the girls and finish my day. At 5 I was off. I called Chris and he asked me where I wanted to go to dinner. Where did I want to go to dinner????? I thought he had it all planned out!! I was definitely myphed. So I told him the Cheesecake Factory since we go there a lot and it's one of my favorites. All through dinner I was mad and Chris finally asked me what was up. I gave it to him and told him that he had led me to believe that we were doing this great thing and he didn't even have planned where we were going for dinner. I was slightly mean about it all since birthdays are kindof a BIG deal to me. Boy did I eat my words!!!!

We saw some friends and dinner and were chatting a bit and Chris was kindof in a hurry to get out of there. I couldn't see why at the time. So we get home and he tells me to dress up because he wants to take me into the city to go dancing. Finally....something right?! I was excited because I have wanted to go there for some time. Well I get dressed up and he takes me to the Starlight room at the Sir Frances Drake hotel in the city. We get in the elevator with some other people and head to floor 21 to the night club. Well the elevator stops at 18 and Chris gets off. I told him it was the wrong floor and pulled him back on but he pulled me off. He took me to a hotel room that he gotten for the night!!! We walked inside our corner tower room and it had these beautiful views of the city!! Chris had set rose petals on the bed and around the floor and even had cake and ice cream!! A cake that said Happy Birthday Patience not just some cake he picked up, one he ordered. Carrot of course! And he even had presents for me!! (some new workout clothes and a water bottle which I desperately needed) So he told me that we were going to have a fun weekend and since we never stay in the city he tought it would be fun. He even packed an overnight bag for me and did a great job!! I was totally floored. We then went up to the night club and danced until after midnight. They had an awesome live band and we had all the Cokes and Shirley Temples we could drink. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me because it was a surprise and I didn't even bring my purse because I didn't want to worry about leaving it at our table.

Thank you to Kara and Kelti for the beautiful flowers. Gerbera Daisies are my favorite. How did you know?? Also, thanks for the eclairs eventhough the deer ate them. LOL. They left some goodies on our doorstep that night and we didn't get home until after 4 the next day so they had quite a treat. I'm sorry.

The pedicure. I'm not a fan of the flowers with the rhinestone in the middle. The girl did it for me since it was my birthday for free. I didn't notice until it was almost done because I was reading a magazine. Ahh...what the heck it's my birthday. I'll be removing them tonight though.

Part of my present was to go test drive a GMC Acadia because it is one of my favorite cars that I want to drive someday after I sell my sporty little Civic when we move. Although I did really like the Buick Enclave which is about the same thing only a little fancier. I never thought I would like a Buick. Aren't those old people cars? We had a lot of fun exploring this car. They even let me take it on the highway.

The Starlight room and night club. The dancefloor was really big and had a 360 view of the city. SOO COOL! The band was AWESOME and we even got to dance the Cha Cha to Santana. They also played some top 40's like JT's "I'm Bringing Sexy Back". Chris is such a good dancer!

The outside of the hotel

The doorman. How would you like to wear that costume every day to work? Yikes!

Our room. They had these really fun robes and slippers to wear. LOL. They were really comfortable but kindof tacky for a classy hotel. Their thing was release your wild side. Hmmm....maybe on the dance floor.

I LOVED this mirror!!

The view of the city was so pretty especially at night. I love this city!!

I loved having a corner room because the view of the city was all around you!

The marble staircase in the lobby.

The lobby. I loved it!! It was classy and fancy with a modern flare.

More of the lobby. Very San Francisco!

The ceilings were all very cool.

So the next morning Chris went out and got Starbucks for breakfast while I was still asleep and we had breakfast in bed. He then told me that he was going to take me shopping for the day at Union Square. He was such a trooper!! He was very patient and carried all of my bags without complaining and giving opinions of all of the stuff that I picked out. We were there for hours and I didn't hear one complaint!! We got some stuff at H&M and a bunch at Nordstroms. I love those pre-season sales!! It was such a wonderful birthday!!
Thanks to my wonderful husband who did all this while still in school. He checked into the hotel and decorated everything during his lunch break and got my cake and everything that morning at 6am! He has NO TIME to do these things yet he found the time to squeeze in all the details. PLUS I had NO IDEA. And I'm a hard person to surprise. I'm so thankful for him. He's such a great person and wonderful companion. I love you sweetie! Yay I'm 25!! We have so much to look forward to in our lives together.

Aquarium Trip

I spent the week with Sarah and since her sister was in camp I thought we would do some fun things too. I took her to the Aquarium by the Bay. They have these two large tunnels with people movers in them that take you on a tour of the life in the San Francisco Bay. I was shocked to see so many sharks!
Sarah loved all the starfish. She kept pointing them all out and getting so excited. Look! Another one!! Patience....another one!!

She wanted to touch the jellyfish. Good thing there was glass! She was so mesmorized by them.

Of all the fish we saw, she loved the man cleaning the tank the most. LOL

I'm not sure what that is but it sure was big!!

Shark!!! Yeah I won't be swimming in the Bay any time soon. Apparently they are harmless. Yeah....right....harmless until they bite you!

Lots of sting rays too.

After the tunnels they have these little tide pools where you can touch all the creatures. The sting rays were the most fun to watch and touch. They were very active.

Brave little Sarah. That is a Leopard Shark. Lots of those in the bay too.

Of course we spent lots of time touching the starfish. I never knew there were so many different kinds with all different textures. I love the purple ones naturally.

We spent some time in the creative classrooms making new sea creatures. We made a rainbow jellyfish. It was a lot of fun. I loved spending one on one time with her.

UOP White Coat Ceremony

White Coat Ceremony for UOP
Yay Chris!! I'm so proud of you!!
The ceremony was in the city at the Veteran's Building in the Herbst Theater. It's right accross from City Hall and was this huge beautiful stone very Roman looking building. The ceremony is for the commencement of the part of dental school where Chris begins working on patients. It was very beautiful and inspiring.
I got there 20 minutes early and was barely able to find a seat!! We are waiting for the ceremony to begin. I was playing with my camera to find the right setting. Some of the pictures came out a little dark sorry.
They began with talks on dentistry and the responsibility of service to everyone and quality of care for your patients. Also, about the joys of dentistry and the art of the trade. They then had a speaker on how we will all makes mistakes and how to avoid potential problems as a dentist. I got all choked up. I'm so proud of Chris!! He has worked so hard!

That's my Chris the first one out. They brought out their white coats and had a member of the faculty put it on them. There was a beautiful quartet playing classical music the whole time. It was very well done.

That's Chris with his framed copy of the Professional Oath.

Chris stepping down.

All the newly coated dentists reciting the oath. I will do no harm....etc. I will be holding Chris to this one!! What about cause no pain??

Welcome to dentisty the greatest profession there is!!

Us with Authur A. Dugoni the man the school is named after. He was the dean until retiring this last year but is still very much a part of the school. He's such an amazing person and role model to all of the students there. Chris just thinks he is dynamite! I do too!

A close up of the coat. Yes that says Dr.

I'm so proud of you honey!!

Chris with Craig and Brian two of his good buddies. Great guys!

The reception that followed upstairs. It was this really nice catered dinner/dessert/finger foods type deal with an open bar. Chris and I had our Cokes. It was just beautiful. The balcony was open and you looked right out to a great view of the city. Very nice!!

Chris with Rachel and Tamara (two of this row mates). All of his friends at the school are such wonderful people. We couldn't have asked for a better group!

Us with Dr. Yarborough. Another wonderful role model for the students. We were hoping we would be the future Dean. He is so great with all the students!

A view of city hall right accross the street. The Veteran's theater looks just like this but without the dome. It was such a fun and memorable evening!

The 3500 mile trip!!!

The Ultimate Summer Trip!!

To celebrate Chris' 1st year of dental school completion, we took a took a trip from San Francisco and did a loop up the West coast camping and then staying with family the rest of the way. Our last stop was Las Vegas. We had quite the adventure. Enjoy the pictures!!

Head out on the highway

Looking for adventure

Our first stop was the Avenues of the Giants in Humbolt Redwoods. Chris and our tiny little Civic compared to these huge trees.

The whole time I was thinking how cool it would be to ride a motorcycle through this!! What do you think J0nny?

A fallen log by the road.

Our first night at Hidden Springs Campground right in the heart of the Redwoods

We were just amazed by the scenery. This was the Eel River that flows through the whole place. There were many pullouts with picturesque views. We wanted to stop at them all but couldn't because it would have taken us all day.

You would drive around a bend and have a breathtaking sight to greet you!

We just had to stop and see this one. It was right off the freeway and lots of people were there taking pictures. We love the coast!
Chris was a little camera shy so you will be seeing lots of me in these pictures. Just a warning...I wasn't wearing makeup the whole first week. Viewers beware!
oohh....just another beautiful sight!

The open road. Look at all of those trees? Now that is my kind of pretty.

We stopped in this town to get some gas right by this amazing bridge. Every bridge in Oregon (along the coast at least) was an architectual sight! The gas attendant at the station pumped our gas, looked under the hood, washed our windows, and checked our tire pressure. What service!! In Oregon you aren't allowed to pump your own gas. Chris loved that! Hmmmm...this is looking like a great place to live. Chris tried to tip him and he said it was all part of his job. After some pleading he accepted. I love it!

This was a great lookout spot. We spent a few minutes here watching a huge Humpback whale. Unfortunately I couldn't get a good picture. My camera was too slow. Down below was a huge colony of Sea Lions. You could sure hear and smell them. Notice the lighthouse in the distance.

More shots of the lighthouse.

We stopped for lunch at this pretty lake right by the lighthouse. This place was just a stone's throw from the ocean. We were just so amazed by the scenery.

One of the many bridges that we went over. The mountains were all covered with such thick forests. The air had the freshest feel.

The second night we found this place that was right on the beach. The staff was so friendly!

By our second night camping we had setup down to a science. We had everything ready in 10 minutes.

Another angle

Right by our tent was the sports field. We made friends with the rangers and they gave us some horse shoes to play. Ask Chris who won...me of course. I finally beat him at something. But it was very close. The rangers were so nice and they even gave us a free map of Oregon and told us all about the state. We love Oregon!

Now it was off to check out the beach which was just over the dunes. Oregon has these HUGE sand dunes. It goes mountains and deep forest, rivers, sand dunes, ocean. They were all so close. You get an all inclusive scenery view here. We stopped to see if we could rent a dune buggy to play around in the dunes with but they were all sold out. Bummer!

Just being a kid again. I love my oceans! The water wasn't too cold either. There were people swimming when we got there.
Chris couldn't resist the fun too.

A long shot of the beach with a big resort on the shore

A closer look

We walked to the end of the beach and over these beautiful black rocks to this inlet. Notice yet another rainbow bridge in the background.

A shot of the beach from the inlet

The fishing boats were coming in for the night

Look at that sunset!! Maybe it was a sign. Live in Oregon....Live in Oregon

Another shot of the bridge. Watch out Golden Gate.

The happy camper. VERY happy. He is stress free until school starts again.

We just couldn't stop taking pictures it was so beautiful!

That's my man. I wanted to get a shot to show how close the forest was to the ocean.

Chris got a little carried away with the camera. He wanted me to pose. He still thinks I'm beautiful even after no makeup for a whole week. Now that's love. LOL

The next morning. Look who stopped in at our campsite for breakfast.

He sure wasn't camera shy.

And he loved Ritz crackers. Chris...we aren't supposed to feed the wildlife. But he was just so darn cute!

We left Southbeach and headed inland to the Portland area. We first set up camp at Silver falls State Park then headed in to explore for the rest of the day. As we were driving in look what we found right off the freeway. It took us both by surprise.

The temple was so beautiful!! I think I will add it to my list of favorites. It was just huge!

Our campsite at Silver Falls. On this trip we had a campfire every night at all the sites we stayed at. I made lots of smores. Can you believe Chris didn't like smores before this trip? I had to make him one the right way with the perfectly brown gooey mallow. He loved them! I was fighting him for the mallows and chocolate the rest of the trip. Yet another thing I have converted Chris to. Hmmm....what next?

Breakfast the next morning. Mmmmm...pancakes and eggs with melon and pineapple. We had to have a hearty breakfast in preparation for our 9 mile hike that day.

Yikes..... Fortunately the only cougars we saw on the hike were BYU Cougars. Us and many others, even our neighbors. Apparently the Portland area has a high population of LDS people. Another plus! We saw lots of BYU hats and shirts.

The first and biggest falls. This one was called South Falls. I don't remember the rest of the waterfall's names. Lainie maybe you can help me out. Thanks for reccommending such a beautiful spot!

The hike took you up close and personal with all the falls. We hiked right behind it an into the caves. What a great hideout!

More shots behind the falls

Another. Isn't this place just so picturesque!

Yeah....we took a lot of pictures of South falls

The last one. A little bridge in paradise.

This was Lower South Falls. It was still pretty early in the morning and a little chilly.

The next waterfall. Hey...There's Chris

A shot taken looking out from behind the falls.

A little bit of nature along the trail. I kept looking for a 4 leaf one but I bet that is what all the rest of the hikers were doing as well so there wasn't any in sight. Bummer!

Ummm....SNAIL!!! That thing was HUGE!

Yet another falls. I was getting a little tired of smiling for the pictures.

The next falls. This was was really tall as well.

And I had to test the water. It was COLD. It flows right from the mountains.

This platform extended out over the river. You can hardly see the falls below but it was pretty.

The next falls. I was getting pretty tired by now.

Chris was all set with his hydration pack on his back. Our neighbor Kevin made us those walking sticks for the trip. They were so handy because the trails were wet and steep at points. We discovered that you walk a lot faster when you have a walking stick. Why didn't we think of this before?

Yet another falls

Along the trail they had these old stumps that they carved out to be seats. We stopped here for some water and granola bars.

How much longer? We were getting tired.

We met up with this great retired couple that was taking a whole year to travel the country in their 5th wheel. Retirement sounds really great right now.....We stopped in one of the oldest parts of the forest and they were telling us that these were virgin trees and that this grove went back to prehistoric times. They were definitely tall.

I think this one was North falls

Do I look tired or what? This was mile 8

And the last falls. We made it!! Now it was off to Seattle.

As we crossed this bridge in Portland you got a great view of the snowcapped Mt. Hood in the distance. There wasn't a place to pull out so the quality isn't that great. We stopped at this AMAZING library that even had a Starbucks inside because Chris realized that the Red Sox were going to bein Seattle that night. You know we couldn't resist buy tickets!

So here we are at SAFECO Field in Seattly watching our boys play. The park was so pretty right on the ocean with the city in background. There were more Red Sox fans here than Mariners fans!! And the Sox fans were LOUD. I kindof felt bad for the Mariners fans. But they were rooting for the wrong team. Gotta love those Sox fans.

Since we didn't know were going to catch this game before we left, we didn't have our Red Sox gear. At least we were able to sport the colors. We sat by some fun people including this old couple that were Mariners fans and every time the Mariners did something good he got up and did his "booty" dance. It was hilarious!

The field after the game. The city night skyline was so pretty. Yes, we lost. But we are still #1 in the league. You can't win them all. But we got to see all of our favorite players. Schilling was scheduled to pitch that night but ended up on the DL. We were really disappointed.

Behind us was a HUGE tour group of Asian people from Japan there to cheer for Ichiro. They had banners and pictures for every time he came up to bat. He was really good too! Too bad he plays for the wrong team.

Another shot of the city lights! We LOVED this park. If we lived in Portland it's just a 3 hour drive to see our team play here once a year. We could do that. It's no Fenway but it will do. This stadium even has a roof that slides over it when it's raining. It is Seattle.

I tried to get a shot of the skyline. We parked right outside the park for $15 and there was lots of parking available. You can't do that at Fenway. The perks of a smaller city.

We stayed at a hotel that night to clean up from camping and the next day we headed north to the San Juan islands in the Puget Sound to go see my Grandpa on Guemes Island. The views from his house are amazing. LOTS of windows with breathtaking views and even an indoor swimming pool. We didn't want to leave. He lives in Paradise.

The view of the snowcapped mountains from his windows. I forgot the name of them but they were gorgeous at sunset.

You have to take a ferry to get to the island. I wanted a picture so I found one on the internet.

This is the General Store that greets you when you get off the ferry. It has it's own lighthouse. What a quaint little place!

The next morning we headed out to see Deception Pass. The bridge is MUCH bigger than it looks.

The shadow of the bridge in the depths below. There were so many whirpools. The water was really rough. You can't tell from the picture.

It always amazes me how these big trees grow out of rocks. Those must be some strong roots!

After Deception Pass we headed out for a game of golf. Notice Grandpa's hat. He knows who to root for even though he lives in Seattle.

Us on the green. We had to fight a few passing showers but they didn't last long. We also saw some really cool planes fly overheard as it was near a small private plane airport. Dad you should fly out in your plane!

Yes that is me golfing in flip flops. I didn't know we would be golfing so I didn't have my cleats. It affected my game quite a bit but Grandpa and Chris were there to coach me for some great shots. There was one hole where you had to hit over a big pond onto the green. I lost my first ball but the second shot was perfect! After golfing we went to this great place for Crab Cake burgers. The Dungeness crab there is SO GOOD!

After Seattle we headed out to Boise to see my Brother and his wife and kids. We went to a waterpark the next morning and spent the day there. I didn't have my camera for obvious reasons so I found some pictures of our favorite rides.

This was my favorite one that you alone.

The line was really long to this one but worth the wait!

We had such a fun time in the wave pool. You could actually surf the waves they were so big. Clean water and no sharks? Sorry ocean I'll body surf here. This reminded Chris of his life guarding days at Wet N' Wild. We all had a great time, even the kids.

This ride was so fast! It dropped you off the slide into 10ft. of water. I loved it!

This was my niece Ally's favorite ride. You could race 4 people at a time and we all went. We must have gone on it 10+ times. Chris was always the winner. He had a good strategy.
This was my nephew Logan's favorite place. He sat on Tiffany's lap and floated along just happy as could be. The waterfalls were great to cool off.

I went of this ride twice. Chris and me then me Chris and my brother Eric. It was so much fun! When the three of us were on it we went so fast that we almost flipped on the turns. Eric loved this ride! He couldn't stop talking about it.

Aren't they cute?!

This is what happens when you let your brother play with the camera.

Ok Eric, we know you want attention. Nice pose!

My brother and his family all ready for church.

After Boise we headed down to St. George Utah to see Chris' parents. We spent the day at Zion's National Park. While we were waiting for the shuttle we checked out the wildlife museum. They had some amazing animals on display. We were just moosing around.

Our first stop at Zion was the Narrows. It's a narrow hike, hence the name, through the canyon and in many parts in the river.

A picture from our hike

The canyon gets really narrow. We only hiked in about a mile so it was still pretty wide. But we got really wet in the river.

All this was carved by the river rushing over the soft sandstone.

Chris' mom and I had to cool off so we found a waterfall.

A shot from the Narrows. How awesome!

Behind us is Angel's landing. It is way taller than it looks. Chris hiked it once but I was too chicken to do it. The paths are really really narrow and are carved into the cliff. I have an issue with heights and I didn't want to die. Especially after Kelly (Chris' dad) told us all the stories of people who have died climbing, repelling, or just standing to close to the edge. Yikes!

I forgot the names of these. But the white one is limstone.

A picturesque view

This rock formation was called the Pipe Organ. Apropriately named.

On one of the hikes there wer tons of Prickly Pear cacti. It looks like the ones on the cartoons.

This formation is called the Three Patriarchs. Abraham Jacob and Isaac. And there is our family Patriarch with Chris.

This one in Mt. Moroni. I wonder who named that one?

Me and Chris by the Patriachs.

That night Chris' parents surprised us and took us to see Cinderella at an outdoor theater minutes from their house called the Tuacahn.

We were so excited!! I love the Rodgers and Hammerstein version. I was singing to all the songs. "Impossible things are happening every day"!
The view inside. It is right up against the red rock mountains which made for some really cool acoustics and a great outdoor experience. Thanks Mom and Dad Adams!!

After St. George, we headed down to a hotel in Vegas for a few days. We spent a day with his Aunt Robin Uncle Rod and cousins Sean and Adams. We had a blast in their pool swimming and playing water volleyball since it was 118 degrees outside!!!! We then had a great BBQ and played some games. We introduced them to Rummicub. I forgot the camera so I don' t have any pictures. The next day we headed up to Logandale for the 4th to see a bunch of Chris' family for a BBQ and the fireworks. We forgot our camera again so we don't have any pictures. I'm hoping Susan and Kelly will send us some. After the fireworks we headed back to Vegas. The next day we spent the morning with Chris' sister and two cute little girls. Becky I want those pictures. No camera again.....Then we met his Aunt Annie for lunch and went back to our hotel for some R&R. That night we ate pizza with my brother Dan and his girlfriend Christine and her son Jack who is SUPER cute. It was the first time I met them and I loved them. Sorry Mom no pictures again. I just wasn't thinking. Or maybe I was pictured out. The next morning we headed back to San Francisco. We had SUCH a great trip. Chris starts school tomorrow. I'm not ready for this! I was spoiled with so much time with him and now I get to go back to almost never seeing him for the next year. We'll make it! Thanks to everyone for such a great trip!! Love you all!
